*I received a complimentary product from The Little Catholic Box in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are genuine, and my own.
Holiness isn’t only for the chosen few. Prayer isn’t only for Mass. Religion isn’t only for church.
When we strive to live out our faith, we’re doing more than being part of a club. It’s about more than rules and rituals and a weekly meeting.
It’s about relationship.
Primarily, our relationship with God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And our relationship with the other members in the Mystical Body of Christ.
The strongest relationships are the ones that are constant. With our friends, we maintain steady communication. With our family, we have daily connection and intimacy. With God, we must constantly drink from the fountain of grace. We must inhale His life-giving Spirit with every breath, lifting our hearts in constant love.
That’s why the Church calls us to bring religion home. To dwell in our little “domestic church.”
I need all the help I can get to remind me to lift my mind and heart to God throughout the routine of my day. So we fill our house with sacramentals: reminders of the life of Jesus, His Holy Mother, and the Saints. Reminders of our God and who we are as children of God.
But even these things start to fade into the background sometimes. We become overly familiar with them, and they fail to provide the same motivation to piety.
That’s when it’s time to mix it up. To find new tools to inspire us to connect with God throughout our day.
This week, I got a special treat in the mail that helped me do just that.
The Little Catholic Box
The Little Catholic Box is a subscription or one-time purchase, sent to you in the mail at the beginning of the month. The contents of each month’s box are a surprise, but they always have a beautiful and meaningful connection to our Catholic Faith.
What I love about the Little Catholic Box is how it provides new ways to bring the faith into your daily life. Each of the surprise items inside provides a different tangible way to pursue the call to holiness.
Let’s dive in and check out the items in this month’s box!
Lemon Verbena Soap
…from the Dominican Nuns in New Jersey.
I was super pumped to see this soap in my box! My one daily opportunity for rest is my soak in the tub. I love to listen to Catholic podcasts, pray the Rosary, do some mindfulness exercises, or reflect on my day. It’s my time to reconnect with who I am as a child of God.
The lemon scent of this soap is refreshing. It fills me with a sense of peace, and reminds me to lift my heart in thanksgiving and a moment of prayer for the Nuns who made this product.
13 Powerful Ways to Pray
…a book from Dynamic Catholic, written by Eamon Tobin.
This one went straight on my nightstand. I’ve noticed that daily spiritual reading goes a long way towards improving my mental and spiritual well-being. If I spend just a few minutes reading, and a few more minutes journey my thoughts and responses, I feel so much more grounded.
I’m excited to get started on this book. Prayer is a necessary part of our relationship with God, and I could always use a boost!
“For You, Jesus” bracelet
…by Jill Simmons at Pink Salt Riot.
I love Jill’s shop. I browse it all. the. time. But with three young kids, I’ve never been much of a jewelry wearer. I’ve been too afraid to purchase her beautiful, delicate looking pieces, worried that my active mommy life will result in them being broken and destroyed.
But this bracelet, which looks so gorgeous and delicate, is actually quite durable! I immediately put it on, because I was so excited, and it matched my outfit. And I’m excited to say that never before has a piece of jewelry changed my day like this one did.
Every time I noticed it around my wrist, I silently repeated the words “For You, Jesus.” It transformed my momming, my cooking, my napping into a prayer. I’ve been trying to pray like this for years, but never have been able to remember to. This bracelet opened the gateway to constant prayer for me! You can bet I’ll be wearing this as often as I remember to put it on in the morning, and browsing for more pieces to add to my collection.
Thy Will Be Done
…print from Jessica Marie at Sweet Little Ones.
I love Jessica! I met her through #MyMassTakeaway, and began following her on Social Media, but I had no idea she had an etsy shop. So when I saw this print in my box, I was so excited to learn about her shop, and guys, you have to check it out. Her products are so beautiful.
It took me a little bit to decide what I wanted to do with this print. I’m not big on hanging things on my walls, or filling my counter spaces with knick-knacks. But the prayerful “Thy Will be Done” is a message I need more of in my daily life.
Finally, I figured it out. I live out of my daily planner. I don’t leave home without it. Anything and everything that needs to be done gets scheduled in there. So, what better place to have a reminder to do God’s will? I decided I needed this print affixed the the front cover of my planner, and didn’t lose a moment in making that happen.
Memorare Prayer Block
…from Jen Norton Art Studio.
This was a new name for me, and I’m so glad I found her! Her art is whimsical, bright and sweet. I know I’ll be browsing in her shop often.
And this prayer block was the perfect piece for me. My pastor’s favorite prayer is the Memorare. He assigns it for my penance every time I see him for confession. So, me and the Memorare, we’re tight! It’s such a beautiful and powerful prayer that I should turn to more often than just for my penance.
And a bonus: my girls took an immediate liking to this prayer block. They’ve been carrying it around and talking to Mama Mary. I’d say this item is a win for the whole family!
